Taking a year of retirement in our 40s to travel the world

Neither one of us is independently wealthy, a trust fund baby, lottery winner, or anything like that. We have been working in our careers for 20 years and have steadily been saving for retirement during that time. We have always been financially conservative…some friends might even call us cheap! Like many people, we are targeting our mid-60s to retire, which means that we have 20 to 25 more years to go. A lot can happen in that period of time. I had a medical scare a few years ago that fortunately turned out to be nothing serious. However, it really put things in to perspective and that’s when we started our life reset process. With this in mind, we decided to SHIFT our retirement years.
