How much did 3 weeks in Portugal cost?
We departed Malta on January 24, arrived in Portugal later that day, and stayed until February 13. For the purpose of budgeting we are including any costs from January 24 onward, including the flight to Portugal. The expenses outlined below are for 2 people and are in United States dollars (USD).
January 24 – February 13
Total Number of Days
Average Daily Cost
Transportation (airlines, metro, train, Uber, etc.)
We were fortunate, our flights from Malta to Portugal were only $48 per person!
The entirety of our time was at AirBnBs.
Food (restaurants, grocery store, snacks, etc.)
In Portugal we split our time between eating our and preparing meals at our AirBnB.
This included things like exploring the Douro Valley in a 4×4, a sparkling wine tour, visiting the Lello Library in Porto, a fado show in Coimbra, the Lisbon Aquarium, a walking city tour, and entry fees.
Bathroom supplies, umbrellas, allergy medicine, donations, etc.
Mobile (SIM card)
What does this not include?
- Storage Unit
- Life Insurance
While these are costs associated with our travels, they are not country-specific, which is why they are not included in this expense report.
To help keep track of our budget and expenses, we have been using an app called Trail Wallet, which is what allowed us to easily track and report category-specific expenses. Click here for a separate post about Trail Wallet.
